YOUNG members of a book club went on a litter-picking campaign after a choice of book “ignited a passion” in protecting the environment.
The KS1 Book Club is hosted by the Book Nook in Tollesbury.
In January, the club read Stella and the Seagull, a story about how waste affects wildlife and in this case, a seagull.
Reading the book ignited a passion in club participants, who were then eager to clear some of the litter from the sea wall at Tollesbury.
The children organised a clean-up with help from staff at the Book Nook.
They made and distributed posters throughout the village while staff at the Book Nook contacted Maldon District Council to use litter picking equipment.
Thirty people attended the clean-up.
They walked the sea wall for just under an hour and collected about six bin bags of rubbish.
A spokesman from the Book Nook said: “We are impressed and inspired by these children's passion to protect their environment.”
