The fire service was alerted to a fire by residents who spotted the flames from the St Giles Crescent and London Road area.
Maldon fire station has confirmed it is at the scene and are undertaking a “controlled burn” to ensure it doesn’t spread any further.
The fire was fully developed when crews arrived in the early hours of the morning and the haystack had been destroyed.
