PLANS to convert a home in Burnham-on-Crouch into two duplex flats have been submitted to Maldon District Council.
The proposal for a property in Station Road, Burnham, follows a refused application for two flats - one at ground floor and the other on the first floor.
The council said the property was in a flood zone.
It said the building was at risk of flooding to a depth of up to three metres and could not be evacuated safely.
The existing two-storey property is in the town centre, with a small shop on the ground floor and a four-bedroom flat on the first floor.
The planning application says the proposed conversion work would not result in any impact on the building’s external appearance.
The shop would also remain.
After the previous refusal, the design has been altered to create two semi-detached properties, providing refuge on the first floor in the event of a flood.
Maldon District Council will have the final say.
