PROPOSALS to build a house in Althorne have been refused by Maldon District Council.
The application was submitted to the council in November 2023, outlining plans for a new three-bedroom home.
Maldon District Council has rejected the plans.
If approved, the property would have been two storeys high and to the rear of 4 River View Terrace in the village.
The proposed site is located on the southern side of Fambridge Road, forming part of an existing rear garden.
A spokesman said: "Future occupants of the site would therefore be heavily reliant on the use of the car to gain access to everyday services and facilities.
“As such the proposal does not provide a sustainable form of development.”
They added: “Results in proposed development would have an urbanising effect which would be out of keeping with the rural character of the area and would cause harm to the intrinsic character and beauty of the open countryside.”
The plans had been recommended for refusal.
