A TRUST leading a secondary school in Burnham celebrates its 15th birthday this week.
Ormiston Academies Trust is among England’s longest-standing academy trusts.
The trust was established by Peter and Diana Murray in 1969, following a family tragedy.
Peter’s sister, Fiona Ormiston Murray, died in a car crash alongside her husband while on their honeymoon.
Subsequently, Peter founded Ormiston Trust in her memory and as a tribute to Fiona's love for children and the belief that each child deserves the best chance to thrive.
Ormiston Trust led to the establishment of Ormiston Academies Trust in 2009, now one of the largest trusts in England.
Ormiston Rivers Academy, in Burnham, joined Ormiston Academies Trust in 2011.
Tom Rees, chief executive of Ormiston Academies Trust, said: “This is a very special year for our trust. Peter and Diana Murray’s principles have guided the trust through its history and have ensured that we have always remained true to its founding values.
“A commitment to support all children and young people, regardless of background, so that they can achieve their potential.
"To provide the best education, enrichment opportunities and futures for our students and to collaborate through the shared understanding that we can achieve more together.
“We have a duty to build on this legacy so that all our academies are as good as they can be, and that all our students get a great education.
“I am excited to see both schools – and all Ormiston academies across England – continue to deliver excellence to the children and young people they serve.”
