PLANS for two illuminated entrance signs in Burnham-on-Crouch have been refused by Maldon District Council.
The proposal was for the controversial Burnham Waters development, where the signs would have been placed near the entrance.
The council said: “The proposed advertisements, by reason of their illumination, would result in the advertisements being out of keeping with the existing rural character of the area and would therefore be harmful to the amenity of the countryside location."
Essex Highways said they had no objection to the plans.
Burnham Town Council had said the plans be refused on the grounds of “urbanisation and light pollution”.
In their final report, a planning officer had also recommended refusal of the proposal.
