THE national charity of the British Army will have one of their own taking part in the world-famous Maldon Mud Race.
Founded in 1944, the Army Benevolent Fund provides support to soldiers, veterans and their families when they are in need.
Simon Ferrier, a liaison officer at the charity, will be participating in the Maldon Mud Race at Promenade Park on Sunday, June 2.
Mr Ferrier said: “I’ve taken part in many different types of events in the past, but nothing quite like this. I am very much looking forward to taking on the challenge.
"Even though the race is short, it is a test of endurance to keep going in the mud.”
He will be joined by two-time Olympic gold medallist and six-time world champion rower James Cracknell.
Other mud runners will have the chance to see how they measure up against an Olympic athlete.
The event will feature around 300 entrants raising money for a range of charities.
Mud Race organisers have given the Army Benevolent Fund the chance to offer free entry to serving personnel, veterans and cadets aged 16 or older.
Money raised will be split between the Army Benevolent Fund and the Mud Race charities for 2024.
