A SAILING Club in the Maldon district is hosting the latest edition of its annual open day.
Blackwater Sailing Club, in Heybridge, has extended an open invitation to individuals and families, whether they are sailors or complete beginners.
Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy the club’s facilities, including sailing sessions with experienced sailors on the large lake in different dinghies including Quests, Zests and Wayfarers.
Cadets will also be giving demonstrations while other rigged boats will be on display near the clubhouse.
As the tide comes in during the afternoon, visitors will be able to go out on the River Blackwater in ribs, launches and cruisers.
At 2pm, visitors will also be able to watch club members race on the river.
The open day will take place on April 27, start at 11.30am and finish at 5pm.
Booking is not needed for the event, as members of the public are invited to come along while bringing a change of clothes and shoes... just in case!
Club commodore Alan Hoy said: “We’re all proud that our award-winning club is celebrating 125 years of sailing this year.
"It’s a most friendly, vibrant club of over 1,000 members which is still run by volunteer members.
"We’re looking forward to welcoming visitors to have a taste of what’s on offer at our open day.”
There will be guided tours of the refurbished clubhouse while members will be discussing sailing and social activities on offer at the club.
