MALDON and other Essex slimmers have raised more than £10,000 for Cancer Research UK by donating larger sizes clothes that they “will never need again”.

Maldon, Burnham on Crouch, Danbury, Feering, Hatfield Peverel, Kelvedon, Mayland, Southminster, Springfield, Tiptree and Witham Slimming World groups collected more than 400 bags of clothes, shoes, homeware and accessories as part of the Slimming World Clothes Throw.

Each of the bags is worth about £25, while the Slimming World Clothes Throw national campaign raised £1.8million in two weeks as well as raising awareness about how a healthy weight can reduce the risk of developing types of cancer.

Kay, who runs the Burnham on Crouch, Mayland and Southminster Slimming World groups, said: “I can’t quite believe how many bags we managed to collect.

“I knew our members were amazing, but I didn’t expect such an incredible level of effort – wow!”

Kay said seeing members donate too-big clothes was the “cherry on top” and that when they believe they can be size they want is when “things start to change”.
