A POPULAR museum which is home to an incredible first World War airfield has received a cheque for more than £1,000 thanks to two charities.
The Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome, near Maldon, has received a cheque for £1,076 from two rotary clubs, this week.
The Rotary Club of Billericay Mayflower and the Rotary Club of Billericay Town held a classic car rally on April 21 at the museum, where nearly 200 vintage cars were on show for motoring enthusiasts.
During the day, money was raised for Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome which is registered as a charity and has more than 100 volunteers working at the tourist attraction.
The CEO of Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome, Ian Flint, is so thankful to the rotary clubs.
He said: “When John and Brian got in touch to say that they had raised more than they planned and wanted us to benefit, I was thrilled.
“We had such a great day in April, with lots of very happy drivers and navigators.
“Donations and purchases in our shop directly help the museum pay the growing bills and keep us open, so we were really happy.”
