A POWER outage is currently underway in the CO5 9 postcode which covers areas like Kelvedon, and more.

The UK Power Networks website confirms that a planned outage started at 9am this morning, June 19.

The reason for the power outage is because UKPN is diverting overhead electricity cables underground at the request of a third party.

By carrying out this work, it will reduce the risk of unplanned power cuts in the future.

But in order to carry out the work, which is taking place in Coggeshall Road, the power has to be turned off in the area for safety reasons.

The CO5 9 postcode covers areas like Feering, Messing and more but houses are only affected in the Kelvedon area.

Specifically houses in the  Coggeshall Road, Observer Way, Newtown areas are affected.

Any households affected would have received a letter about the planned works.

The firm said more than three houses are affected by the outage and power should be restored by 12.30pm today at the latest.

A UKPN spokesman said: "Our engineers are upgrading overhead power lines in the Coggeshall Road area today, to help ensure local supplies remain safe and reliable.

"The work will interrupt power to 20 customers who have been notified in advance, for about three hours. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
