BOSSES at an authentic Brazilian cafe in Maldon have made the difficult decision to close its doors for ever.

Cafe Brazil, in the High Street, has been a popular spot for residents and visitors, to enjoy South American specialties.

The business struggled with the impact of the pandemic, which happened just two years after the cafe had launched.

In February, the business had been listed as for sale on Rightmove, but the advertisement had been removed quickly, as it had been published due to a “miscommunication”.

Despite the owners being confident about the future, the sad news of its closure was announced on July 1.

In a statement, it said: “It is with a very heavy heart that we have made the ultimate decision to permanently close the doors of Cafe Brazil on July 6, 2024.

“It has been our sincere honour to serve our amazing customers over the past seven years, sharing so many special moments, occasions and events, and we would like to thank our customers for their loyalty and support over this period.

“We understand this is short notice to many and some may still have valid vouchers, therefore we would like to give you the opportunity to visit us before our closing date to enable us to reimburse you. Please bring your voucher with you to redeem the money. Alternatively, we would love to see you in the forthcoming week so you can use your voucher.

"From Monday, July 1, until Friday, July 5, our doors will be open from 12pm-3pm only.

“We hope to see as many of you as possible this week to say our final goodbyes.”

An employee told the Standard about how the restaurant was planning to overcome the Covid “challenges” in February this year, as well as possible plans to expand the business

Loyal customers said they were “heartbroken” over the news, with many saying the special restaurant will be missed in the town.
