FOOTBALL club officials in Maldon paid a visit to see the progress of a new sports pavilion.

Taylor Wimpey welcomed officials from a Maldon youth football club to mark the ‘topping out’ of a new sports pavilion being built for the club and the community.

The housebuilder and contractor Bakers of Danbury are constructing the pavilion at the Handley Gardens development, on the southern side of the town.

Once complete, the facility will become home to Maldon Saints YFC, a community club with more than 250 members.

Club officials visited the site to see the progress on the building, which will be known as the Limebrook Sports Pavilion, and sign part of the steel structure.

The facility is due to be completed and handed over by September this year, in time for the 2024/25 football season.

Michael O’Leary, regional operations and sales director at Taylor Wimpey London, said: “We aim to build communities where people feel like they belong, and sports clubs and other organisations can play a huge part in that process.

“We’re really excited that Maldon Saints will be moving into Handley Gardens this year and we hope that the new pavilion helps them to become an even bigger part of the Maldon community.”

Simon Gray, chairman of Maldon Saints YFC, added: “We are very proud and excited to be taking ownership of the Limebrook Sports Pavilion and we are looking forward to ensuring as many of the children and players get to use the facility over the coming years.

“As chairman, I am also extremely excited that this facility will enable the club to grow stronger and expand throughout the locality.

“We are very grateful to Taylor Wimpey and to Maldon District Council without whom this opportunity wouldn't have existed.”
