AN author has published a children's book in memory of her late father.

Shirley Robson's book, called Daisy Gets It Wrong, is in honour of father Geoff Eaton, who died in 2020, aged 93, after catching Covid-19 in hospital while having rehabilitation following pneumonia.

Shirley, from Maldon, said: “I have a vague memory of Dad telling me a story he'd made up for me about a little girl who always got things wrong.

“I remember asking for the same story over and over again as it was so funny, but I can't really remember the details of the story, more just the concept of it really.

“From this I had an idea to produce my own story, just for my grandchildren initially, whose names I've included in the book.

“I began to write Daisy Gets It Wrong, which is a story about a six-year-old girl who tries to be kind and helpful but who always seems to get the wrong end of the stick.”

“Her adventures with her family and friends at school, on the beach and in her village have earned her the nickname Dizzy Daisy.  Like all good stories, however, she grows out of her dizziness as she turns seven, and all is well in the end.”

The book is dedicated to her dad.

Shirley challenged herself to complete the project during lockdown and decided to publish the book after receiving positive feedback.

Niece Hayley Austin, who is a fashion designer, did the illustrations, making it a family affair.

Geoff thought the world of only granddaughter Hayley, so the book would have made him so proud.

The book is priced £6, and is suitable for four to seven-year-olds. Copies are available at the Maldon Book Shop, or they can be purchased directly by emailing hideawaycr@gmail.com.
