ORGANISERS of a handmade market in Heybridge say they are overwhelmed with the support they have had since it launched.

The market has multiple stalls including vegan handmade fragrances, jewellery and cards.

There are also stands which sell items such as flowers and sweets.

The market happens on the second Sunday of each month at The Barn at The Jolly Sailor.

The next event takes place on August 11.

Working closely with the pub has allowed the market to progress and sees returning customers also spending money in the pub.

Katherine Tanner, who is part of the organising team, said: “The handmade market is under appreciated, we find that a lot of older people like to come down and support the local community.

“I thought it would take a little while to build, but from day one we’ve had a steady stream of people coming through, gaining regular customers and some great unique stands.”

They have plans to branch into the pub garden during the winter months when the pub is less busy in the day giving them a larger area to work with.

The market is also looking to move forward by introducing a farmers’ market alongside it which will sell products such as bread and chutney.

Ever growing, the market now sees regular customers and also people coming from further afield to get their hands on handmade products on show.

Each month the stands change and offer different products to customers.

Lucy Lee, who works at The Jolly Sailor, and runs a stand at the market with friend Julie Tolfrey, said: “As a community it is lovely to have something to look forward to each month.

“Visitors get a goodie bag which brings people in. It is weather dependant, so we naturally get more people on a sunny day and we have visitors to the village who then come and have a look at the market.”
