SEVEN people have been arrested in connection with the theft of cables in Danbury, with the vehicle linked to the crime also believed to be stolen.
At 11pm on Wednesday, July 31, a grey Ford Focus RS, which was believed to have been stolen, was identified to be in Danbury.
The vehicle was linked to a group believed to be responsible for the theft of cabling used for phone and internet.
The car was seized and officers recovered a number of items including jammers, key kits, hats, and gloves.
Officers from police's Operational Support Unit, Road Crime Team, Dog Unit supported by the National Police Air Service, followed the vehicle to Maldon Road where the people inside got out and tried to make off.
Seven people were quickly arrested and questioned.
A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of going equipped and criminal damage, a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and going equipped, a 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, burglary, and going equipped.
Three boys under the age of 18 were also arrested.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, attempted burglary, and going equipped, a16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, possession of Class B or C drugs, and attempted burglary and a 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of theft.
They are currently on police bail and police enquiries continue.
Det Chief Insp Neil Johnstone said: “Tenacious and quick work from officers in teams across the force secured a number of arrests in connection with theft of cables.
“Cable thefts can have a really big impact on communities as losing internet connectively affects everything from online shopping and accessing social media to working from home.
“We are steadfast in our commitment to arresting those involved in this type of criminal activity and bringing them before the courts.”
