HUNDREDS of residents flocked to Maldon's town centre as the popular carnival returned with a bang.

Streets were filled with joyous spectators waving and cheering as vibrant floats, carnival queens, and majorettes paraded down the High Street.

With good weather added on top, the event truly brought the community together in celebration and was once again a resounding success.

The competition was fierce, with numerous floats and participants vying for top honours.

The Maldon Pioneers claimed the prestigious "Best in Procession" award.

Visiting carnival queens added a touch of royalty to the event, with the float from Witham standing out.

Maldon Carnival Court also performed their curtsy to the Maldon mayor and other local dignitaries who granted them right of passage through the town in what is a time-honoured tradition.

The parade was a testament to the hard work and dedication of all participants, from the stunning costumes to the intricately decorated floats.

Carnival organiser Carol Banks said: "A special thank you goes to the maintenance team at Upper Plume School, who stepped in as caretakers for carnival week.

"Their efforts ensured a smooth and enjoyable experience, saving the day for many children who would have otherwise been disappointed.

"We would like to say a big thank you to A J Ostridge Transport Ltd and Simarco International Ltd.

"For the lorries provided without your support, we could not have had such an amazing procession.

"Gratitude is also extended to Bex 4x4 for their surprise support in towing the carnival float and to the last-minute volunteers who organised a delightful tea for the visiting queens and courts.

"Lastly, heartfelt thanks to all the visiting carnival queens and courts. Your participation and camaraderie made this event feel like a true carnival family gathering.
