A REGISTERED sex offender has been jailed for three years after falsely imprisoning and assaulting a teenage girl.

Essex Police received reports on January 29 that a teenage girl had been falsely imprisoned at an address in north Essex.

The force’s domestic abuse investigation team launched an investigation and Mamumroshid Miah was arrested on February 1.

Miah, 34, of Cross Road, Maldon, denied the allegations when he was interviewed by officers.

He was remanded in custody and appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court the next day, when he admitted two charges of breaching a sexual harm prevention order on December 16, 2023, and January 28 this year.

Miah denied three further charges and stood trial for false imprisonment and two counts of common assault against a second teenage girl on separate occasions in 2023.

During a week-long trial at Chelmsford Crown Court, the jury heard Miah had prevented the girl from leaving the address and confiscated her phone, so she had no contact with family or friends.

She was only able to leave the next morning with his permission.

Miah was convicted of the three charges by a jury last week.

He was jailed the next day for a total of three years in prison.

He received 20 months for false imprisonment, 16 months consecutively and 16 months concurrently for the sexual harm prevention order breaches, and one week concurrently for the two common assault charges.

Investigating officer PC Kirstie Parker said: “Miah’s coercive behaviour left his victim feeling that she had no control and made her feel isolated and scared.

“But she has stood up to him and exerted her independence by seeing him stand trial for his unacceptable behaviour towards her and I would commend her taking a strong stand against such behaviour.”

A police spokesman said: "This case highlights the work of specialist officers and their commitment to tackle violence against women and girls.

"Essex Police’s domestic abuse investigation team work hard to protect and support victims and try to prevent abuse taking place by identifying those people who pose the greatest danger, so it can step in at an earlier stage and protect people."
