PASSENGERS waiting to catch buses in Maldon were left scratching their heads after the wrong timetables were put up.

Timetables intended to be put opposite the Queen Victoria pub on Spital Road, were placed outside Haus, which is situated on the corner of Victoria Road on Maldon High Street.

The timetables have been up since July.

It is thought the confusion arose as the names are somewhat the same.

Wrong - the bus timetable outside Haus on Maldon High Street was for opposite the Queen Victoria pub on Spital RoadWrong - the bus timetable outside Haus on Maldon High Street was for opposite the Queen Victoria pub on Spital Road (Image: Steve Savage) Steven Savage, who was Maldon Town Council's bus representative from 2003 until 2020, said: “Bus chaos has recently returned to Maldon, as the new bus timetables have been put on the wrong bus stop displays.

Correct - the bus timetable outside Haus on Maldon High Street has now been correctedCorrect - the bus timetable outside Haus on Maldon High Street has now been corrected (Image: Credited) “Whilst I was taking a second look at the bus timetable, I noticed buses missing and apparently going in the wrong direction, until I spotted the critical mistake.

“A passer-by then told me there were more in the High Street that were misplaced. The public needed to be told not to trust these timetables.

“Essex County Council are responsible for collating, printing and distribution of timetables, directly or through third parties.

“Third parties they pay about £10 per timetable and I hope this error is not across the whole of Essex.”

A spokesman for Essex County Council said: “We will look into the reported issue with the existing timetables at the bus stops in Victoria Road, Maldon, and make any necessary adjustments.

“Issues with bus stops or bus stop signage can be reported online at www.essexhighways.org/tell-us/other/bus-stops, or by emailing public.transport@essex.gov.uk.”

The Standard understands Essex County Council has now resolved the issue with the bus timetables, with the correction of timetables now displayed outside Haus on Maldon High Street.
