THE yearly Burnham Carnival, which dates back as early as the 1800s, will take place this weekend.

The carnival looks set to bring in visitors to the event, with an array of entertainment set to cater to the needs of thousands of people.

On the day, spectators can look forward to vibrant and well-decorated floats, fairground rides, and community-run stalls.

Daytime entertainment will be provided from 10am on Saturday September 28, with many different events taking place throughout the day.

Starting off the day activities will be a tug of war in the main arena at around 10.20am.

In the evening, people can look forward to some live music from Aaron Kelly on the main stage from 6.30pm.

Aaron Kelly will be the last act before the build up to the evenings procession starts.

Parents can bring their children along to compete in one of the events – the children’s fancy dress, which splits into different categories.

These include under-five’s, five to eight and over eight.

Featured in the daytime schedule, there will be a Queen’s Parade for the first time, which starts at 3pm.

After the daytime entertainment is finished, the illuminated procession will begin at 7.30pm.

The procession starts at the clocktower, goes up the High Street, Station Road up to the Co-op, right into Devonshire Road, Arcadia Road and finish bottom of Dunkirk Road into Orchard Road.

This week, in the build up to the main event at the weekend, there have been events taking place across Burnham.

On September 25 at 2pm, the carnival hosted an event aimed at younger children, with the baby show - littles ones aged between six months and 18 months.

People also had the opportunity to take part in quizzes on Monday September 23 and Tuesday September 24.
