OFFICERS in Maldon are continuing their efforts to prevent hare coursing and those responsible.
Officers from Essex Police's Rural Engagement Team have been out and about in Maldon looking to prevent hare coursing.
Hare coursing is an illegal activity where dogs chase, catch and kill hares - a considerable problem in rural areas.
Not only does it involve cruelty to wild animals, it is also associated with a range of other criminal activities, including theft, criminal damage, violence and intimidation.
Anyone who is caught hare coursing can face an unlimited fine and up to six months in prison.
Officers have been utilising drone technology to spot and investigate any suspicious behaviour that indicates criminal intent.
An Essex Police spokesman said: "We’re pleased to say that no hare coursing incidents or related behaviour was reported.
"As a result of our work with our neighbouring police forces to tackle hare coursing, we have caught and prosecuted offenders.
"This has included seizing vehicles and dogs to prevent re-offending which has helped incidents continuing to fall across Essex."
