MALDON District Council has welcomed a newly-appointed chief executive.

Doug Wilkinson has been appointed as the new chief executive (Head of Paid Service) for the council.

The former director of environment and operational services in the London borough of Enfield began his new role on Monday.

Maldon District Council leader Richard Siddall said the council is "delighted" to welcome Mr Wilkinson, whose appointment came after a "rigorous selection process".

He said: "We are delighted to welcome Doug on board as our new chief executive.

"His role is pivotal in the organisation and will help us to deliver real outcomes for our district.

"I know that by using his extensive skills, knowledge and experience, Doug will build on the recent work the council has done and will help us to continue to drive forward change and to develop our projects and commitments.”

Mr Wilkinson will engage with local partners, councillors, MPs and staff in his first few weeks.

On his new role, he said: “Councils make a real difference in residents’ lives on a daily basis and I’m passionate about delivering quality services in the public sector.

"I am therefore excited to start working with the dedicated officers, councillors and community partners in the Maldon District and to achieve great things together.

“Of course, collaboration is going to be key in order to ensure the future success of the district and to meet the needs and aspirations of everyone who lives, works and visits here.

"I will therefore be meeting with partner organisations as well as with staff and councillors to continue the excellent work that has already been established.

“Together we will ensure the future success of our unique and beautiful district.”
