MALDON'S popular firework display is back in town this weekend providing another evening of spectacular entertainment.

The Maldon Rotary Club is once again organising this year's Maldon Fireworks on Saturday, taking place at Maldon Promenade Park.

The gates for the event will open at 5.30pm with music and entertainment from 6pm.

The bonfire will be lit at about 7pm and the fireworks display will kick off about 7.30pm.

This year's display will see award-winning display team Star Fireworks present the display.

Additionally, the event has a new headline sponsor in First Bus Essex.

Chairman of the organising committee Brian Farrington said: "We expect to welcome around 7,000 residents and are once again grateful to have BBC Essex's Matt Mackay supporting the event, both in the lead-up and on the night itself.

"His involvement is crucial in helping us raise awareness and achieve our fundraising goals.

"We must also thank other major sponsors including, Maldon-based TFP Financial Planning.

"We receive help from many local companies year on year and we thank them for their generous support."

He continued: "We're committed to providing a memorable evening with spectacular fireworks.

"We hope the community continues to support the event, enabling us to contribute to local charities.

"We’re aiming for another record-breaking crowd this year, with glow sticks on sale, family-friendly fun, incredible stage entertainment and plenty of delicious food and drinks."

Maldon’s fireworks event will be at the Promenade Park on Saturday.

Unlike previous years, tickets will not be available from retail outlets or the High Street, there will be no ticket sales on the gate either.
