MALDON will once again be honouring the fallen for Remembrance this weekend.

It is one of many towns across the district holding events for Remembrance Sunday.

A service will take place at 10.50am at the War Memorial in Maldon High Street.

Led by Rev Heather Atkinson from All Saints Church, the service will provide an opportunity for the community to come together and pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country.

The “Last Post” will be sounded by a bugler, followed by the Exhortation, to be read by the Maldon mayor Andrew Lay, and moment of silence.

The end of the silence will be marked by the “Reveille,” signifying the hope of a new day and the enduring spirit of those who served.

Wreaths will be laid, and the Kohima Epitaph will be read by representatives of All Saints Primary and Wentworth Primary.

The event will close with a March Past.

In Burnham, the Remembrance service will begin at the Burnham War Memorial at 10.30am.

In Heybridge, the parish council is putting on the event, with a parade beginning at 10.35am from the Plantation Hall to Heybridge Cemetery.

Elsewhere, Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome is also putting on a Remembrance Parade.

The event is free to attend but must be attended with a ticket, with ticket holders asked to arrive from just before 11am, with the parade beginning in the early afternoon.

The Ceremony will be led by The Lord Lieutenancy of Essex and the service will be delivered by the Rt. Rev Bishop Atkinson, Bishop of Bradwell.

The Honour Party will include chair of Essex County Council Jill Reeves, Maldon District Council chairman Kevin Lagan, Maldon MP Sir John Whittingdale and Lt. Col Ed Rankin, Commander of Colchester Garrison.

Uniformed Youth Units representing all arms will be joined by serving members of HM Forces as they pay their respects to those lost in all conflicts.

A service is also due to be held in Little Braxted at 2.30pm at Little Braxted War Memorial.
