Multiple council-run car parks have been recognised for their 'high standards.'

Maldon District Council's car parks have been honoured with the Park Mark award and the Park Access accreditation, reflecting their commitment to safety and accessibility.

The Safer Parking Scheme, managed by the British Parking Association (BPA) on behalf of Police Crime Prevention Initiatives, requires each car park to undergo a 'rigorous' assessment by specially-trained police assessors.

The evaluation considers management, maintenance, surveillance, lighting, signage, and cleanliness.

Facilities bearing the Park Mark certification have reportedly seen a reduction in vehicle-related crime of over 80 per cent.

The Park Mark certification is an indication of meeting the 'highest safety and security standards.'

The Park Access accreditation is awarded only to locations with 'excellent' accessibility features, ensuring facilities are 'inclusive and user-friendly for all.'

The Maldon District Council-owned car parks that have been awarded Park Mark and Park Access are Riverside Park (Park Mark), Millfield's (Park Mark), Foundry Lane in Burnham-on-Crouch (Park Mark and Park Access), High Street East, Butt Lane, Friary Fields, and White Horse Lane in Maldon (Park Mark and Park Access), and the Coach Park and main car park at Promenade Park (Park Mark and Park Access).

Ian Wilson, BPA southeast area manager, said: "It's been a real pleasure working with Maldon District Council and their dedication towards providing the best possible facilities for their customers is second to none.

"They have demonstrated they are passionate about improving services and are always happy to take feedback on board.

"Well done for all your hard work and congratulations on achieving these park mark and park access awards."

Councillor Richard Siddall, leader of Maldon District Council, said: "We are thrilled to receive the ‘Park Mark’ award and ‘Park Access’ accreditation for our car parks.

"This recognition reflects our ongoing efforts to ensure that our parking facilities are safe, secure, and accessible for everyone.

"I would like to thank all those involved in achieving these high standards."
