HUNDREDS of people turned out as Maldon's streets were bathed in a festive glow at the annual light switch on.
The town's new Christmas lights switch-on and festive market drew crowds to the High Street on Thursday.
The event spearheaded by the Maldon Town Council had town mayor Andrew Lay, and town councillor James Burrell-Cook switching on the lights with children from Maldon schools coming together for a wonderful evening.
Families and friends strolled through the bustling street stalls, exploring unique gifts and crafts from local traders while savouring delicious food and hot drinks.
The festive glow of the newly unveiled Christmas lights added to the warmth of the evening, delighting attendees of all ages.
“It’s been an incredible night, a bit cold but the kids are loving it, ” said Sarah, who came with her kids Dylan and Ryan.
“The lights are stunning, and we’ve loved exploring all the stalls. The mulled wine and mince pies were a real treat.
Inside the Town Hall and the Cygnet Room at the Swan Hotel Bar & Grill, craft markets showcased handmade goods and festive decorations, while the sounds of carol singers and local performers filled the air outside.
The Big Sing choir were incredible.
And the Elvis tribute shows were crowd-favourites.
Santa’s Grotto was a hit with the little ones, providing an extra dose of seasonal magic.
“It’s fantastic to see Maldon coming together like this. It's bustling. The community spirit is just wonderful, and I’ve picked up some great gifts for Christmas,” said Steve, who was enjoying the evening with wife Molly and his three young children.
