IN very windy and testing conditions, Five Lakes were able to hold the third round of the Winter League on the Links course.
Three groups returned a respectable 37 points, Wood and Sinfield, Foot and Garnett along with Garnett and Dunnett, Dave Rogers with Freddie Coe came home with 38 points to be just outside the main prizes.
Two pairs returned 41 points to dispute second and third place with Phil Robson and Graham Doherty beaten by Frank Taylor and Neil Shinwell, scoring 22 points on their back nine holes.
However, winners on the day were Charlie Powell and Alan Hayes with 42 stableford points.
Birdie balls were won by Tony Cook on the tenth, Matt Ponder and Paul Bowers on the 16th.
Five Lakes Seniors played their annual and seasonal Turkey Trot event on the Lakes Course.
With 23 turkeys up for grabs, competition was keen for the 32-strong field, in the ‘three clubs and a putter’ stableford format, played in mild unseasonal conditions.
The leading players returned excellent scores with some, no doubt, more successful than with the normal full set of clubs.
Leading the pack for the ‘biggest birdie’ was Peter Ivey carding 34 points with Peter Gee and Ron Colbert, 32 points, in closest contention.
Braces of pheasant and Christmas puddings were awarded to those bringing up the field.
The main results were: 1 Peter Ivey 34 pts, 2 Peter Gee 32 pts ocb, 3 Ron Colbert 32 pts ocb, 4 Danny Murtagh 32 pts, 5 Barry Painter 31 pts ocb, 6 Ken Diddums 31 pts ocb, 7 Mike Martin 31 pts.
