DAVE Huzzey believes his appointment as Maldon and Tiptree's new first-team manager can be the perfect fit.

Colchester United’s transition coach has been named as the Jammers new boss, for the 2024-25 season.

Huzzey takes over in the Park Drive hot seat from former U’s striker Jamie Cureton, who was in charge of the Pitching In Isthmian League division north side for the final weeks of this season.

Huzzey told Jammers TV: "I'm absolutely delighted.

"I feel like it's a really good project and the club matches my ambition, in terms of where we want to go.

"I'm really excited to be here.

"With my own experiences of being assistant manager at Colchester and then working with a lot of young players that have gone out on loan to this level, it combined with my experiences and the experiences that Maldon want, so I think it's a really good fit.

"The infrastructure and professionalism of the football club really helps, as does the connection that I'll bring from Colchester because I'll keep my full-time job there.

"I think that can be a really good connection and a really bright future for some of the young players there but also, the young players here."

Huzzey has been at Colchester since August, 2019, working in a variety of different coaching roles during his time at the club.

The former Southend United youth-team coach, who had also previously worked alongside Wayne Brown and Joe Dunne in the senior set-up at the U's, feels that will stand him in good stead in his new role at the Jammers.

"I've had quite varied experiences, over the last few years," said Huzzey.

"I've had two rather long stints at Colchester as assistant manager whilst also being a transition coach between the first team and the 21s as well.

"That's led me to watch loads of games at Maldon as I've been helping some of the loan players and having a real good input in some of the young players coming through, at Colchester.

"In terms of my philosophies, I like to play football and that means playing out from the back, building deep and high and pressing high and hopefully, some good attacking exciting football."
