THERE was a large turnout for Five Lakes’ Captain’s Charity Cup held on the Lakes course.
Three players returned 35 points.
Eric Howlett (13) and Charlie Powell (15) were just outside the main prizes but also on 35 points was Ben Grant (26), with a better back nine to claim third prize.
The top two places were also decided on countback.
Second place went to Malcolm Pook (5), leaving the winner Jack Garnett (3) to claim the Trophy, both with 36 points.
Birdie balls were won by Gary Trim, Andy Lee, Alan Garnett, Doug Wood and Graeme Sinfield. The Longest Drive nearest the line prize was won by Fran Taylor.
In placid, autumnal conditions 32 seniors competed for the Monthly Stableford Qualifier on the Lakes Course.
With only a couple of qualifiers remaining in the season, competition was keen amongst the front runners to land the Seniors’ Order of Merit.
Conditions were friendly enough for nearly half the field to card 30 points and better.
However, Ash Patel, with 39 points, headed the field two points clear of Peter Ivey in second place.
Captain Richard Taylor has an almost unassailable lead in the Order of Merit with the remaining qualifiers to come and it will be difficult for those challenging to inflict a telling impact on his lead.
The top results for the Competition: 1 Ash Patel 39 pts, 2 Peter Ivey 37 pts, 3 Keith Codling 34 pts ocb, 4 Ken Laight 34 pts ocb, 5 Alan Blois 34 pts ocb, 6 Steve Greaves 33 pts.
Nearest the Pin (second shot) was won by Barry Pearson on the first and by Tony Tyler on the 15th hole.
Tony Tyler also won Birdie Balls on the eighth and 11th par-three holes.
