THE first round of the winter league was played at Five Lakes.
In glorious autumn conditions on the par 71 Links course, three pairings returned 41 points, Alan Garnett and Peter Dunnett, Richard Hardy-King and Nigel Popper along with Charlie Powell and Joe Hart.
Phil Robson with Graham Doherty returned a steady 42 points to be just outside the main prizes.
Third place went to Harry Clover (5) and Andrew Ponder (12) with 44 points.
In second were Frank Taylor (16) and Neil Shinwell (8) with 45, beaten on countback by winners Barry Boniface (12) and Malcolm Pitt (8) also on 45 points, scoring 23 on their back nine holes.
Birdie twos were won by Richard Hardy-King and Mick Gill on the tenth, Harry Clover and Paul Bowers on the 13th and Malcolm Pitt on the tricky 16th hole.
