FIVE Lakes Seniors played their third round of this season’s Winter League.
The format was a three-ball Texas Scramble Stableford, played off 1/7 combined handicaps, with individual points carried over to subsequent rounds.
Seven teams entered the competition, played on the Lakes course in pleasant winter sunshine that made a welcome change to the ferocity of Saturday’s conditions.
With the moist aprons giving little release, players needed to fly their approach shots directly onto the green to save dropping a shot.
The main results were: 1 Jim Fern, Barry Turner and Ian Brown 46 pts, 2 David Owen, Ken Diddams and Barry Painter 43 pts, 3 Peter Ivey, Alan Blois and Tony Choat 42 pts ocb, 4th Alan Hayes, Ron Colbert and Steve Greaves 42 pts, 5 Bryan Thompson, Stuart Sturdy and John Ramplin 40 pts.
In the nearest the pin competition, Jim Fern took the award on the fourth hole and David Owen on the 16th.
After the Stableford competition held last week, in which John Saunders closely beat Danny Murtagh on countback with 37 points, the new Five Lakes seniors’ captain, David Barbour, had a successful drive-in, splitting the fairway his tee shot to 176 yards.
Barbour takes over from last year’s captain, Richard Taylor.
