THE new club captain Nigel Popper has returned to to do a second stint at Five Lakes as he previously held the reins in 2000.
Popper intends to build on the strong club atmosphere that exists at Five Lakes and looks forward to working with his vice-captain Ron Dent, who has also worked tirelessly for the golf club as junior organiser and an active committee member.
The lady captain at Five Lakes is Roma Raymond having had a successful year as vice-captain.
Popper has been a continuous member of the tournament committee for many years along with his other duties with the Essex Captains which he will also captain in 2016.
Also driving off was Tom Arrowsmith, the new junior captain at Five Lakes.
Prior to the captains’ drive off the retiring club and junior captains putted out on the 18th hole.
Roger Hyman for the main club and Joe Hart for the Juniors. A large field competed in the annual Turkey Trot at Five Lakes.
Father and son Barry and Russel Smith individually scored 36 points with Barry taking fourth place with a better back nine holes.
Third place went to Les Cheyne with 20 points on his back nine holes, second slot went to Andy Lee with 37 points in testing conditions.
However, claiming first prize and the best scratch score was three handicapper Jack Garnett with a magnificent 41 stableford points.
Birdie balls were won by Alan Hayes on the tricky 16th hole.
