Five Lakes’ Seniors played their sixth round of this season’s Winter League.
The format was a Texas Scramble Stableford, played off 1/7 combined handicaps for three-balls and 1/3 for two-balls.
Individual points are carried over to the last round allowing players to select their best five score out of a maximum of seven rounds played.
The competition was played on the Lakes course in very blustery conditions with strong unpredictable winds courtesy of storm Henry making for very challenging golf.
The water-saturated course required preferred lies to be taken through the green with all bunkers deemed GUR.
With the wind-affected ball having variable direction and virtually no roll, scoring was not easy and only one of the six teams returned more than 40 points.
In impressive style, the team of big hitting Jim Fern, new member Martin Measor and, for the second week running, Tony Choat, won this round with an invaluable score of 41 points.
With one round to play, Fern heads the Seniors Winter League table with a five-best total of 218 points, nine points ahead of Ron Colbert in second place.
Results: 1 Jim Fern, Martin Measor and Tony Choat 41 pts, 2 Tony Tyler, Ken Laight and Clive Jenner 39 pts, 3 Peter Gee and Alan Blois 38 pts, 4 David Owen, Mike Martin and Barry Painter 37 pts, 5 Peter Ivey, Paul Raymond and David Swain 36 pts.
In the nearest the pin competition, Tony Tyler took the award at the fourth hole and Tony Horne at the 16th.
